STYLELOGUE: URBAN SAFARI Our latest STYLELOGUE June edition, kicks off the summer with URBAN SAFARI. This familiar trend that’s been around some time, is ALL about cargo pockets, khaki color, straw bags and crochet accessories. My most fave past safari collections has been Spring 2009 Gucci. And who can forget when YSL first introduced the first safari jacket, in his 1967 runway show. In addition, it is considered one of the most iconic silhouette of his career and revolutionized women’s fashion. For instance, on the most current Spring/Summer runways, designers created clean sleek silhouettes and styled them with cool urban shoes and accessories. (Because you know she ain’t going trekking in no safari with those threads.) Traditionally khaki is the color of choice, when it comes to this utilitarian concept. However, this year designers are showing in slightly darker shades of brown and camel tones (such as Alberta Ferretti and Cividini) accessorized with bright sandals (such as Boss). My fave of all is Ellie Saab’s romanticized flirty dress with gold obi belt and strappy shoes. That outfit has my name written allover it! PHOTOS PROVIDED BY TAG-WALK DRESS|SHOES|BELT|BAG SAFARI CHIC It’s going to get hella hot and ALL you want to wear are natural cotton pieces that are breathable to the skin. Like this button shirt dress I’m wearing. Even the sleeves are cut wider in width to help me stay cool. The length is short enough to wear as a short dress. Or can be styled as a tunic worn with denim or biker shorts underneath. By adding a tonal wide belt, I’ve created a flattering waistline. Super versatile! Not so safari bound with these slip on mules in metallic gold. There’s no way I would trek around them in the Sahara desert. Hence, why we named it URBAN SAFARI. The round black and natural straw bag, adds texture and pattern to this outfit. I folded the top and made it look like a giant clutch. And when I’m sick of carrying it around under my arms, I can use the straps to carry over my shoulders. SHOP SIMILAR STYLE: BLAZER|DRESS|SHOES|BAG TONAL SAFARI Mary’s sporting khaki colors mixed with shades of tan. I love how she coordinates the look, while playing with box pleat cargo pockets, crochet and macrame textures. By adding a structure blazer, she can take this to work and then straight to a dinner date with the hubs. If there was a magazine called URBAN SAFARI, this would be the cover. Read Cortney’s blog post here Trends come and trends go. In other words, the only way to make it fresh and new depends on how you style it. Will you be adding safari pieces to your summer outfits?
