WELCOME TO THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE OF STYLELOGUE: TRANSITIONAL PLAID!

As we enter one of fashion industry’s most important month of the year, the ladies (Mary and Cortney) and I discussed on what trend we want to stand for. After long research, we believe the trend that will sustain and take significance, is no other than TRANSITIONAL PLAID.

FALL 2019 RUNWAY REFERENCES

Whether it’s checks, houndstooth, windowpane or tartans, the PLAID pattern was the obvious trend for Fall 2019. They were worn either head-to-toe or as an outerwear piece. The traditional patterns were revived in large/small scales, while created in new silhouettes with strong shoulders, allowing women to feel confident and bold in their own skin! Come fall these patterns in new shapes will be everywhere taken from the catwalks to the streets.

Follow along as we enter the transitional seasons from summer to fall. Allow us to show you how we style this traditional pattern with several modern ways of wearing it.

NAVY PLAID

THE THIRD PIECE

When I learned we were creating plaid looks, I was excited to go “big” with the trend. I was in a hunt for an exceptional piece that says “transitional plaid”. Then I found this Something Navy plaid trench coat that screamed “buy me”. From the ivory/navy/brown color combo to the large scale pattern, it was perfect for fall season.

The fabric has a coated finish (reminded me of a plastic tablecloth), which created a subtle sheen. And for the same reason, the material was not breathable, which can be difficult to wear on a warm day (like the day of this shoot)! I was sweating like a sauna. On rainy days, like we get in Seattle, this coat would work just fine.

THE SEPARATES

Continuing the plaid pattern, I found these Mother Denim crop pants in a smaller scale, while complimenting the colors of the trench. The fit is impeccable, with a denim cut that fits my butt nice and snug. I love their signature stripe trim on the side seam of the pant, adding an unexpected sporty detail.

The casual choice was to wear a denim shirt, but I made it dressier with a self fabric necktie. I even ironed it to give it a nice crisp look, so I can look put together. Think I did alright!

THE ACCESSORIES

Also, if you haven’t noticed already, I am the accessories queen! They help complete a look and takes it to another level. Without those rad sunnies, Chanel shearling backpack, patent belt and suede booties, this outfit would look “meh”! These pieces added texture and balanced the color palette.

I can wear this outfit to work or separate the pieces for a casual weekend by adding a tee-shirt and jeans, to hangout with the family. So looking forward to restyle all of the plaid pieces! Stay tuned for restyling videos on my instagram.
