All different types of fur have been surfacing on the runways for the last few seasons and continues for Fall/Winter 2017. Designers from New York, Milan, London and Paris are showing statement fur, real or faux, in all kinds of silhouettes (See below picture.)
On recent runways, the skin of choice has been shearling coming in all shades of colors from neutrals to brighter shades. It’s definitely making a come back! Styling it with a printed chiffon dresses or a casual pair of joggers, makes your outfit a fashion statement. It goes with everything and keeps you warm while looking cute.
The piece I’m wearing is in a gorgeous coral pink. I’ve been on a pink mode lately, if you haven’t noticed from this post. I’m crazy about this coat. The length hits perfectly at the high hip, so I’m not just wearing head-to-toe fur, which can be OTT (over-the-top). I’m 5′ 4.75″ and the proportions all work together. It looks like I’m wearing the coat, rather the other way around.
By putting a silk blouse and a pair of jeans, I kept the outfit fairly simple. I wanted the fur coat to be the statement piece and stand out from the rest. This can easily be a casual date night or dinner out with my friends.I love shearling for many reasons and here’s why:
- Wearing it makes you feel and look like a million bucks. It makes a dramatic entrance and definitely turn heads.
- The sheep or lamb that the fur comes from is also used for byproducts. So the animals are not just being used just for the fur, but also food on your dinner table. Win!
- The wool naturally adjusts to body temperature and the lightweight allows you to skip those layers!
- Shearling is naturally water resistant. The sheepskin absorbs moisture and the wool fiber attached to the skin repels water. It’s perfect for the damp Seattle weather. Sold!
Yeh, it’s a high ticket piece, but so worth it when you think about all the reasons to love about it. To make it worth the dollar bills, stick with a classic silhouette like an overcoat or a biker style to keep in your closet for years to come. Best thing yet, if you’re “vegan” or anti-fur, there are tons of faux fur options that won’t break the bank and still make a statement. Check out some cute real & faux fur items I found below!
