Being Socially Aware On Earth Day
In celebration of Earth Day, I’d like to share what this day means to me. After being a mom, I worry about how life would be like for Kinsley after I leave this world. I hope that it’ll be a better place than it was when I grew up. But it doesn’t seem too optimistic with the way things are going with global warming, waste, politics, and the list goes on. I’m especially concerned about how the environment would be impacted from the waste we produce. We all have to be responsible and accountable for all the things we consume. We may never solve the problem completely, but how can we reduce this issue?
To be a better consumer, I’ve been an advocate on purchasing well-made pieces that last long, instead of disposable clothing. Or purchase used or recycled clothing to help eliminate waste on this planet. An average American throws away 82 pounds of textile waste each year to landfill. It sits there for more than 200 years, as most of the materials are not biodegradable. I guess we all have to be responsible samaritans and preserve the earth by being smarter with our choices.
Which is the perfect time to mention my new favorite socially conscience repurpose denim brand MARZ Denim based in Seattle. Designer and founder Marion Zaniello’s mission is to reuse clothing and make them new again by updating the fit and appearance. I’m wearing The Sweetheart Jean made from vintage Wrangler’s. She incorporates her signature white paint border on the hem for a splash of contrast color and added denim heart shape patchworks for a bit of quirky fun. The best part yet I got to personalize it with “EFORELISA” in my signature red color. So COOL!
In honor of Earth Day, for a limited time, MARZ Denim is offering 20% off any custom made to order styles and 30% off any stock styles on their Etsy shop. When purchasing, email the shop on Etsy using “EFORELISA” as the promo code. Offer ends on April 30th, 2017.
Hey, I’m guilty of new and shiny things myself. Who doesn’t!? However, next time when you’re about to slide that credit card or press enter on the checkout button, think twice if you really need it and how it effects our planet.
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Have a Happy Earth Day!
