BOLD PATTERNS, BOLD SHOULDERS: HOW TO WEAR THIS 80’S TREND? Remember the 80’s when shoulder pads were a thing? Throw some bold patterns on top of it and it can be a real hot mess. I can’t say it’s all coming back, but if you have a combo of those two things, it can be a scary flashback. Like the color brown I hated to admit was coming back again. Now I’m eating my words. Ok, let’s get back to the 80’s. During that era,I wasn’t old enough to wear the grown up clothes. But I remember my mother would wear blazers and jackets with giant shoulder pads, like the oh so popular tv shows back in the days I grew up watching, like Dallas and Facts of Life. From the big hair to big drama, everything was just loud. How to wear bold shoulders? It’s a new year, so I said to myself why not just give the bold shoulders a try (again). Take this Chanel jacket for example. The shoulders are exaggerated with big thick molded pads. It forms a wide bold shape, I’m not particularly used to wearing. Throwing a classic houndstooth pattern in tweed fabric trimmed with orange passementerie is now a much bolder piece. To let this amazing jacket have its moment, I toned it down with a pair of skinny black leather pants, knee high boots, black accessories and an ivory silk blouse. To be honest, I did feel like a badass having this jacket on. Powerful, even! I can see why women in the 80’s wore them in corporate jobs; to measure up to the men they were against. It’s crazy how a piece of garment can make you feel! And when you feel empowered, you can do almost anything! Are you ready to bring some 80’s bold shoulder back? I am! Xx, E.
