“September is the January of fashion….”
-Candy Pratts Price from the movie The September Issue
THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE
The most exciting time of the year for the fashion industry, is the month of September. It’s the transition of the Fall season, while the runways shows are showing Spring. Haven’t you ever watch the The September Issue? A behind the scenes documentary movie of Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief, Anna Wintour.
An entire month dedicated to runway shows from major fashion cities, kicking off first with New York City, London, Milan and ending in Paris. It’s the holy grail for designers, buyers, magazines editors, photographers, models and especially influencers. It’s the who’s who and everyone wants to be a part of it!
Whether you play a part in the industry, or an avid fan of a designer, it’s incredibly exciting to see the design houses send down new collections with upcoming trends. Since it happens during Fall season, spectating the street styles outside of the shows is a fashion stage itself.
To kickoff the new season, last week, I created a five day fashion week outfit challenge. I posted two outfits everyday on my instastories on Instagram. My followers had until 7 am the following day to vote. The thought of asking them to choose my outfits sounded like so much fun. They get to be part of how I get dressed everyday.
FASHION WEEK CHALLENGE
I put a lot of thought to the outfits making sure it was relevant for Fall transition, from top to bottom. How I would wear it from work day to evening. I kept in mind of it being layer-able for the colder mornings and warm afternoons. They were both functional and fashionable.
blush pink silk dress + ivory cashmere long cardigan + knee high boots + hunter green tote + statement earrings
The dress in a gorgeous light weight silk charmeuse was a nice piece to wear on a brisk fall day. Throwing a cozy cardigan was perfect for the office. Added a pair of knee high boots to balance the length of the skirt was key. I love this look. It was easy to put together and I felt comfortable wearing it all day. All of my stuff fits into the green hunter bag. The color combination of soft muted feminine tones were balanced by neutrals. Put on my signature red lippies and I was a woman on the go!

mint green trench + olive green full skirt dress + white/black sandals + black anklets + structured bag + white shirt
With this outfit I wanted to make a statement, especially with the mint green trench coat. It was the light to the darkness of the outfit. From all the black structured accessories, it was much needed. The olive green full dress layered over a white shirt was fit for a lady. I added an ivory chunky bracelet and a rhinestone bee brooch. BLING! It wasn’t the easiest outfit to wear all day, because of all the layers and the belted bag. I had to remove them every time I leave and return to the office. UGH! But it look good tho….

lilac jacket + gold silk pleated skirt + floral print shirt + gucci handbag + black chanel ankle boot + fishnet anklets + retro shades
Lilac purple and gold is just so pretty together. Feminine and bold. The pleated skirt and the Gucci handbag created textures. Of course the floral printed shirt was the winner of it all by collectively pulling all the colors together. Some ankle black booties and fishnet anklets for a bit of sex appeal. My signature outfit detail! To look super rad, I wore these dusty pink retro shades for a classy outfit.

pinstripe blazer + white polka dot wrap dress + white converse + shearling cross body + chunky bracelet + retro shades
Wearing polka dots in the fall wasn’t what I had in mind as a transitional piece. But hey, it’s fashion! Rules were meant to be broken, right? Love the wrap style allowing me to show a little leg and my new cute converse x comme des garçon chucks. Threw on a navy pinstripe blazer to go back to the navy ground of the dress. Perfect light jacket for the office. Added a blue fuzzy shearling cross body to create a little bit of texture. Then threw on some white accessories and a red lip, BAM! A classic modern fall outfit going from day to evening! Woot!

pink coat + black western styled leather shirt + ivory culottes + cheetah calf skin booties + printed triangle scarf +vintage LV epi crossbody
After reviewing trend reports, western details is one of the key trends for fall. Check out the leather shirt and the triangle scarf. The most western pieces I own. I didn’t want to look like a cowgirl, so I modernized it with an ivory culotte and pink coat. The pointed cheetah booties added pattern and that trending brown color, I want to despise. One of the most proud pieces I own, is my mom’s vintage LV Epi bag she’s owned since the late 90’s. It’s mine now!

There were pros and cons and lots of learnings from the challenge.
- Thoughtful well put together outfits
- Saved time in the morning choosing outfits meant extra 10 mins on the snoozer
- New social media engagement
- Finding a “qualified” person to take a photo everyday
- My closet was a disaster
- Took an hour away from evening family-time putting outfits together
Of course, the best part was the engagement I exchanged with you all. There were tons of positive feedback from many followers I have never heard from, which was SUPER AWESOME! I loved the inclusiveness and fashion inspiration I got to share with you. So thank you for being part of this journey. It meant so much to me!
I’m looking for more ways on how to engage with my readers and followers. Please comment below if you have any incredible ideas.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!
