In less than five months, I’ll be running the New York City marathon. Every time I tell someone this crazy bucket list of mine, I get a little butterfly in my stomach. I have no idea what to expect, except for really sore feet. Quite honestly, I can’t wait for it to be over, because the anticipation is killing me!
To get ready for the race, I need a lot of preparation from training to having the right gear. Now, this is where Peter comes in. He says, “…consistency and endurance is what we need to build from now on…this is where the real training begins”.
As a former junior national team rower and an Ironman finisher, I think he knows what he’s talking about. Peter has been my coach for a few races and the perfect person to get me through this marathon. It also helps that he’s my husband and knows when to push me physically and mentally.
It sounds like the next few months are going to be rough! To help support my training, I needed the right running gear.
I’ve been searching high and low for running clothes that are functional and cute at the same time. Pieces that I can count on and get a lot of use. I was able to find these running pieces and they’ve been working out for me. I’m so excited to share them with you!
This color block windbreaker jacket is a lifesaver, when the Seattle wacky weather decides to grace its presence. The classic fit and light weight polyester material keeps it easy to move around in. It covers the bum at the right spot and has storm flaps on the back to keep you cool. And the color is bright and fun! Nike has been running this jacket since the 80’s. They must’ve done something right to have it running for this long.
A sports bra plays a very important role in a women’s day-to-day workout. This is the type of support you can’t get from your coach, if you know what I mean (*wink). Whether you’re small or largely chested, this could be the bra for you. It has the right amount of coverage and the padding makes it very comfortable. I love how the print gives the outfit a nice pattern play.
This grey and white space dye leggings is high waisted that helps me keep my muffin top in place (yes I have one, thanks to motherhood). I love how the fabric has a very subtle pattern that goes back to the sports bra and jacket perfectly.
My latest obsession is this S’well water bottle and the design is amazing! I love the ombre speckle pattern on this bottle and the best thing yet the insulation helps keep my water cold up to 24 hours!
This mesh top is sexy without being too provocative. The holes on the fabric makes it breathable when I run and provides a bit of coverage. It also lets me show off my sports bra underneath. A little peekaboo never hurts.
I’ve been adding a few Ivy Park items to my closet lately. I love how versatile the collection is from the athelisure to functional active pieces. I’m excited to add them to my closet and wear them to workouts or running errands.
The red on these leggings make running so much more fun. The color is definitely an eye catcher. The seam lines are designed perfectly to enhance your legs and bum in the right places.I love that I can throw on a zip jacket over it and go have a casual dinner or run errands.
Yoga pants can be great for running as well. These white ones have mesh panels to keep me cool and they’re placed in the most flattering areas. Best yet, it’s a high waist style! Again helping me keep things in place.
I layered the leggings with a mesh camouflage tank that is breathable and lightweight. The deeper armholes allows easy movement. I love camouflage pattern and this one is in smaller scale, which I think is a great option if you’re not big on print but love a little novelty.
Wish me luck at the race! If you’re in New York City on November 5th, come and cheer me on!
