A resort or cruise collection in the fashion industry refers to a preseason line ready-to-wear that is presented in between the two annual seasons. It’s for the those affluent jet setters vacationing to warm destination and looking for lighter pieces, during the colder months when stores are still carrying winter clothes.
Today, it’s part of any designer house to offer it in their yearly collection. During the month of May, designers introduced their resort collection delivering to the stores by November. I was been inspired by Altuzarra‘s recent resort collection, and put together an outfit, taking it back in time what truly resort wear used to be.
When I think of cruise or vacation pieces, I’m drawn to stripes, a classic pattern. Stripes comes in different sizes and directions. Here I wanted to put different set of stripes together to keep it fun. The ballet wrap top has the stripe pattern placed diagonally in a vibrant french blue and white. I love how the wrap ties back to the front creating a small nautical knot.
The proportions work back to the pinstripe sailor pants. The length was a bit long and I had to tailor to an ankle length, to reduce the overwhelming width of the pant leg. These white contrast buttons adds a nice touch to the nautical details. The rise of the pant fits perfectly at the waist.
What’s more appropriate for cruise wear than a boater hat. See how I style it on this post. The pumps are comfortable with a shorter heel and easily to walk around in my travels. The blue suede matches back with the color palette. Best find yet, is the vintage Frederick & Nelson handbag. It’s a rare piece and I was lucky to have it loan to me for this shoot from Vee Vintage. The perfect handbag for any holiday look!
What I am most excited is about, I can break apart this outfit and restyle these pieces. With a silk ruffle blouse, I can pair the pants back with white sneakers to make a complete different look. So many options!
I wish I can take my family to a Caribbean cruise, so I can where this outfit on a giant ship and pretend I was those fancy people on the the Titanic. Perhaps, I can convince Peter to go with me someday. Vacation mode on fleek!
