How To Mix Printed Patterns?
Have you ever heard about fashion magazines talk about a trend, whether it’s the denim overalls or shoes with ankle socks, and you’re scratching your head thinking “how can I ever pull that of”? Well as a fashion designer, sometimes putting together outfit doesn’t come easily for me either, especially trying a new idea. Sometimes it takes a while for me to accept it and work around it. Or sometimes I know I just can’t ever adopt the trend, such as UGG boots. (Sorry UGG lovers!) For me, I want to make sure I wasn’t trying to force trends to fit into my style.
- Choose patterns with similar tones of color.
- Play with different scales and direction of patterns, such as small stripes with larger stripes. Or one stripe can be vertical and the other horizontal.
- If you want to be daring, mix bold prints, but keep the prints similar and change the colors. For example, tropical florals with tropical leaves in different shades of colors.
Tip: A trend is all about timing and not every trend is adoptable. Know who you are and your style, the rest will follow.
