The moto (A.K.A. the biker) jacket have been around as early as the 1920’s, when a raincoat maker Irving Schott designed a jacket for Harley Davidson and called it the “Perfecto”. Then a shorter version was revised with a metal zipper instead of buttons, made popular by Marlon Brando, in the movie The Wild One, followed by James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause.
As time past, this iconic piece became more popular in the 70’s and 80’s by feminist badass musicians, such as Joan Jett and Blondie. By that time versions of the moto jacket has been revised, embellished and reinvented ’til today, where it becomes a classic staple in any women’s closet.
I’ve been wearing the moto for the last few years and the trend lives on. I was on a hunt for a new moto jacket and waited to find that perfect cool piece. Finally my prayers have been heard and I don’t have to wait no longer! Woohoo!
I bought this suede leather moto jacket during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and the price was a great deal at $219.90. It’s an investment piece that I can justify, because how versatile it is. I love how the jacket is a straight boxy cut, which makes it easy to layer over anything.
Almost all of the seaming details and trims were based from the ‘original 1920’s Schott’s jacket. The color is in this perfect cool grey that you don’t find very often in suede jackets. Its soft material makes it comfortable and easy to throw on during those cool mornings/evenings. I can’t wait to restyle it again!
I wore the suede moto over a lace romper I’ve had in my closet for a few years. I wear this piece mostly for special parties, when I want to show some legs and still look feminine. Rompers are not the easiest to put on or take off, especially having to go to the bathroom alone. But I couldn’t resist a cute romper!
The calfskin camel slides I styled this outfit with, was a purchase from my last trip to Japan. These are my go-to “dressy” flats, when I have to run around at work. It’s also a good cover-up, when I lack a nice pedicure. Yikes!
I found other moto jacket that were so cute on the sale that I just had to share! Enjoy!
About this shoot: While I was in one of my favorite spots taking pictures, the cutest eight month old puppy Luna was walking by. I couldn’t help but include her onto the blog. She’s the most friendliest pup and the owner let me walked her a little. I love serendipitous moments like this. Makes my photos and stories so much more FUN to tell!
