Fashionable + Forty = Henriette
Welcome to another Forty + Fashionable collaboration! In the last few months, I’ve had the pleasure to style and photograph some of my favorite forty+ year old women in my life. (See the last post about Alicia.) This series of collaborations celebrate women turning a new decade and a view of their own fashion style.
Well, let me introduce you to Henrietta. She’s been a special lady in my life and knowing her for the last 10 years have been such a light. As a single working mom to her seven year old daughter, she manages to juggle the obstacles in life all while missing her family in Denmark. Her loving personality, dry humor and strong will makes her a fun person to be around. She’s that gal you call when you want to have deep conversations and shoot the “you know what”! As close as a real sister ever could be, she will always be a part of my family.
Occupation: Sr. Program Manager
Marital Status: Single
How was it like to turn 40?
I have never felt better than in my 40s. You get to a point where you’re well versed in your career, your kid is older and require less attention, and you’ve probably been through a house purchase. I guess the 40s are on cruise control.
What does it mean for you dressing in your 40’s?
I’ve always dressed classic. I don’t think it really changes much from your 30s. My job requires slightly conservative outfits but when I go out I can still put on cool shoes and cute tops.
How and where do you like to shop?
I shop mostly at main stream stores such as Banana Republic. That is where I can find my office clothes and anything else I need. I don’t mind strollin’ through Nordstrom either.
Describe your style?
Classic and occasionally with a small edge!
How is it like being 40? What has changed? Physically, mentally or spiritually?
I think I take better care of myself. I’m more conscious about what I eat. As you mature its more about feeding your body the right things. I’m also more aware of what causes stress. But that doesn’t do much when I’m working a stressful job.
What do you desire to accomplish by 49?
I want to buy a place to live and find a less stressful job.
What is some of your advice for those in their 30’s?
My advice is to see the world before you have kids.
What is your motto about life? What do you live by?
Smile to the world and it smiles back at you.
Hope you enjoy this month’s Forty + Fashionable and stay tune for the next special woman I get to style!
